August 24, 2009 – 1:04pm Entropy php5 with APC …

I decided to finally install some sort of PHP accelerator on my development machine to see if I could speed things up a bit.

My first attempt was to use PECL to install APC, but that didn’t work, so I had to rely on these instructions. They worked perfectly with my setup: OS X 10.5.8, entropy PHP Version 5.2.9 (release 7) running x86_64.

August 20, 2009 – 12:24pm Getting a new developer started on an existing symfony project

Here is the basic process we use to get a new developer started on a symfony project. This flow assumes you already have created your symfony project and it checked into an svn repository somewhere, and that the developer is on a mac. More…

August 17, 2009 – 12:03am http_build_query

I can never remember the name of this function. I always google and search the php docs for things like ‘php query params’, ‘php url parameters’, ‘php query string from array’, ‘php http query params’, and I even saw “php array to post string” and for some reason this page just never comes up. Yes, this post is a selfish way for me to find this next year when I search my blog for this post!

August 10, 2009 – 10:27am symfony configuration settings, “default” versus “all”

It’s hard to keep track of the difference between the “all” parameter heading and the “default” parameter heading in your security configuration files. The way to remember it is that “default” is just that — a value for when there are no other values set, including one for “all”. More…

A quick way to get the size of a directory:

du -sh .

Used just rarely enough to forget it every time I need it.

August 9, 2009 – 4:21pm View all ignored patterns set with svn:ignore recursively in an svn repository

I couldn’t figure out how to do this, so I posted it to stackoverflow and got a great response within minutes. That community is really great.

The command to view all svn:ignore properties in an entire repository is:

svn propget -R svn:ignore .

Here is the link to my question on SO: How do I view all ignored patterns set with svn:ignore recursively in an svn repository? – Stack Overflow.

August 1, 2009 – 11:27pm On iphone revenue share business models

From the post:

Good app ideas are a dime a dozen. Your great idea isn’t guaranteed to make any money in the app store. Why should a developer develop your whole app for just a percentage of the money you are going to make? Just because you have a good idea? Most developers have good ideas too, and if they are going to risk not making anything for their hard work, they might as well balance that by doing their own work and making 100% of the profits.
